About Us

The Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby started in 1936 with the first race being held on Main Street in Sugarcreek. Each year champions advance to the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship race in Akron. There have been two World Champions who have qualified through the Tuscarawas Soap Box Derby local race. Phil Raber was the very first Kit Car champion in 1976, and Meghan Frantz captured the Rally Masters title in 2011. Children ages 7-20 are eligible to race in the Soap Box Derby. The winners of the Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby race qualify for the 79th running of the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship race at Akron’s Derby Downs Track, July 10-16.
